I am new to laptop computers. I just got the Aspire one D250-1990 by Acer. It charged up very nicely. Seems to work just fine. Battery life is good. Just don’t plan plugging a external CD/DVD RW in and expect the battery life to last a long time. I got the Asus SDRW-08D1S-U USB external drive also. It pairs up and looks nice together. I haven’t used the burning feature yet, so I can’t say much about it at this time. I am using the Cyberlink software that come with the drive. I am used to Nero for all my other computers. I also updated the ram memory to 2GB. Not sure it is needed. Installing software went in fine I don’t like Microsoft Works at all. I have a old copy of Microsoft 2000 Office Pro that I put on the Aspire. Works great. A disadvantage I found was when I tried to put a older copy of Adobe CS2 on the machine. I got a message saying that the Video card and monitor wasn’t sufficient for CS2. Lucky I had a older copy of CS and it went in Ok and works well This isn’t a big time graphics computer. So don’t think it is. It will work great for what it is intended for. It came with Windows Xp Home. I didn’t want all the little Lite software that comes with it already installed.

Please don’t take the following the wrong way. I went to my local computer shop to buy this one. Only reason was, if I had a lot of problems, I had someone local to fall back on. Amazon is a class act. I have used them for years and had no complaints with them. Just a little hesitant this time for the first time around.

The only con is the small size of the screen. I use a 24 inch wide screen on my other computers. Just not used to the small size. You can change the type size on the internet, and it works well on that. I hope you like it as much as I do.

I am very happy with this product. It is simple to use and very quiet. I empty the water whenever I go down to the basement and then turn it back it on. It only takes a minute or so because I have a sink in the basement. My basement was very damp last summer because of a leak and I needed to empty it twice a day until the basement dried out. I didn’t use it all winter. I use it now whenever it’s humid. It does a great job. The tank always fills up and turns itself off.

I’m always hesitant about buying things on the internet but this was very easy and the service was fast. My only wish was that I had sent it to my daughter’s home address as it was a wedding shower gift and she had to pack it up in her car along with other gifts. My advise is to send it to the receipicant’s address and save them the space in their cars. My own KitchenAid mixer has been used for over 20 years and it has be a great machine. I would recommend their products to anyone. The price was cheaper than ordering it in any stores and I didn’t have to pay shipping. It is a great investment.

Weller WESD51 Digital Soldering Station With Power Unit, Soldering Pencil, Stand, Sponge

This fired up right away and I have not had any problems with it at all. The temperature control is extremely accurate. The unit is very easy to use and maintain. Replacement tips and parts are readily available at places like Fry’s (which wanted quite a bit more for this same iron). Although the only thing I have needed to purchase for it outside of solder was a few different style tips for varying electronic soldering applications. I highly recommend this iron for the hobbyist or professional.

Buying Radio Flyer Classic Walker Wagon

We got this for our daughter’s first birthday. She loved it and zipped all over the house with it. I like that the sides come all the way out and we used it this way for a long time so that she could ride in it. It goes a bit fast on tile, so we even took it out into the grass to slow it down. Now that she’s older, it holds lots of animals and toys and will be in fine shape for her brother to use as well. A great, classic piece that you won’t mind seeing in your home.

My first LG purchase of any kind. Took a chance, since it was such a good price compared to the rest of the market. Already have a PS3 slim, which you probably know plays blu-ray discs in addition to being a gaming console. Wanted to have a dedicated movie player, too. Have been watching my favorite blu-ray movie, Kung Fu Panda, and I was shocked how great the picture looked. Is it my imagination or is the picture even better than on my Sony? Is that possible? Bottom of the line LG? What must their top of the line be like? I’ve only had it 3 days, so haven’t learned any features yet, but I noticed the remote has an open/close disc drawer button, which for lazy people like me is one of the most important features.

Cheapest Hoover S3765-040 WindTunnel Electronic Bagless Canister Vacuum

Bought this for use at a summer home ~ lots of sand and pet hair ~ and boy, does it do the trick and then some!! I think it was sucking up stuff that had been in the braided rug for years! I love the fact that there are no bags to replace, and emptying the container is very easy. So is washing out the filter.

The floor brush has 3 suction settings ~ ideal for hard wood, tile ~ strongest setting is truly VERY strong and wonderful on carpeted areas.

I would highly recommend this vacuum!

Low Price Breville BOV800XL The Smart Oven 1800-Watt Convection Toaster Oven With Element IQ

Low Price Breville BOV800XL The Smart Oven 1800-Watt Convection Toaster Oven With Element IQ

I love this product – it is a pleasure to use, functions beautifully, and is beautifully designed.

The other reviewers have already said much of what I would have written. The ‘Out of Box Experience’ is superb. As another reviewer noted, the packaging is quite a bit like Apple’s (see photos) – attractive graphics on an inner box protected in an outer, recyclable box. The oven itself, when compared to the Cuisinart TOB-165 that we have been using (or even the stainless steel TOB-195 model), is like comparing an Apple Mac to a Dell: visually more stylish and appealing, better engineered ‘guts’, and once operated, functionally very well thought out.

A few years ago, our old toaster oven died and we migrated to the Cuisinart which, like this Breville BOV800XL, is a convection oven / toaster / broiler. We liked it so much, that we gifted several more to friends and family. Ah, if only this Breville had ben available then…

The Breville is so vastly superior in every way – function, capacity, ease of use, and ease of cleaning. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The timer on the Breville turns the oven off at the end of any kind of cycle as you would expect – toast, bagel, bake, broil, pizza, etc. This is hugely wonderful compared to the Cuisinart unit which only turns itself off after toasting – you have to remember to turn it off when in any other mode. (The Cuisinart’s timer is ‘dumb’ – just a beeper.) Also, each Breville cycle has smart default settings, and can remember your own settings for temperature and time, or slices (toast) and darkness, etc.

The BOV800XL accomodates a 13″ pizza pan (included). We made two pizzas tonight to test the oven, one fresh (deli) the other frozen. I dialed the ‘pizza’ setting, dropped the default 450 temperature to 425, accepted convection mode, and accepted the default 12″ size for the fresh pizza and pressed the on button. Once preheated, the oven beeped for the pizza to be inserted. At the end of the timed cycle, the oven turned off and beeped again: perfect pizza!

I then did a 9″ frozen Amy’s pizza. Similar procedure as above, but dialed the size knob down to 9″ and pressed the ‘frozen food’ button. Again, perfect at the end of the cycle.

Toast setting works great – up to 6 pieces of toast, as does the bagel setting, which toasts the top at a higher temp then the bottom to make the top crispy and the bottom warm but still soft. Frozen waffles come out great – crunchy outside and moist inside, instead of all dried out.

For baking, a 13″ x 9″ baking pan easily fits inside as does, of course, the larger pan that comes with the unit, loaf pans and small muffin pans.

The glass door conveniently labels the three rack positions for broil, toast/cookie/bagel/pizza, and bake/roast/reheat/warm.

The crystalline-looking heating elements (three on top, two on the bottom) seem to heat faster, and more evenly, than the metallic elements in other counter-top ovens. Depending on the mode/cycle, the oven enables or disables certain elements, and changes the wattage of others.

The crumb tray in the front answer another of my big complaints about the Cuininart. No effort to pull the tray out at any time to brush off crumbs, or wash off accidental spills. (The Cuinsart’s crumb tray slides out of the rear of that unit, requiring minor gymnastics – enough to put it off until it is really gross.)

The stainless finish and assembly is of high quality, and the oversized handle and control knobs give a feel of quality as well (and match current upper to high end major appliances).

No doubt I’ll have more comments after we use the Breville BOV800XL for a few months, but for now, I can only sing its praises.

Boring details:

Dimension Comparison to Cuisinart TOB-165/195:

The Breville being slightly larger permits it to be used for items that otherwise would have to go into a regular oven. The interior of the Breville is 13 1/2″ x 11 1/2″ x 5″ high (to clear the elements), with a curved recess in the back so that a nearly 13″ pizza pan fits. The Cuisinart is 11 1/2″ x 9 3/4″ x 5″ which cannot accommodate pizza, nor a 13 x 9 pan and toasts only 4 pieces of bread.

The small increase in interior space which results in so much greater versatility is at the expense of only an inch of counter space required. The Breville exterior is roughly 18 1/2″ wide x 16″ deep x 10 3/4″ high compared to the Cuisinart 17 1/2″ wide x 14″ deep x 10″ high.

Electrical Notes:

As others note, the oven uses a maximum of 1800 watts, which is basically all that a 15 amp circuit has to offer (most home kitchens will have either 15 or 20 amp circuits). So, you shouldn’t use other power hungry appliances on the same circuit as the BOV800XL. As noted in the owner’s manual, you must have a grounded 3-prong outlet, which any modern home will have. Even though my kitchen is 20 years old, I’m fortunate that the electrician had included three circuits for appliances so no problems here.

With regard to those concerned about the short cord: do note that electrical codes require that outlets on kitchen counters be serviced by a minimum of two separate circuits and be no more than 2 feet from one another (4 feet at a corner). Even under older codes that permit outlets up to 6′ apart, the 3′ cord is adequate.

Installation note:

This is a countertop oven. When operating, nothing should be within 4″ of any side. Because some people are accustomed to GE/Black and Decker toaster ovens that mount under cabinets, do note that that is NOT an option here because of the high heat and clearances required. You really do need to have enough counter space to accommodate the unit.

Cheapest Samsung NC10-11GP 10.2-Inch Pink Netbook – 6 Cell Battery

September 18, 2009 – 12:29 am

Cheapest Samsung NC10-11GP 10.2-Inch Pink Netbook – 6 Cell Battery

As many have already said, the Samsung NC10 is a great machine. The size is just right, the screen bezel doesn’t appear to be huge as on other netbooks, and the keyboard is excellent. The keys are a bit stiffer than I am used to, but they have a comfortable amount of travel and I am able to touch type without difficulty. The only real issue I have with the keyboard is the need to press Fn to use End and Home keys, but I suspect every netbook would suffer this fate due to lack of space. I appreciate the standard key layout of the NC10, as this was one of my concerns about the ASUS 1000ha and the soon to be released 1002ha. I am a heavy right shift key user and am pleased that Samsung didn’t mess with it.

I compared this with an Acer Aspire One (AAO) from a local store, and I am completely satisfied with choosing the Samsung. The AAO was also a great machine, but the difference is really in the keyboard. That and the Samsung has a matte finish screen which is appreciated in public places for the lack of glare. The brightness is sufficient and as many have said, the battery life is great. I also think the Samsung runs quieter than the AAO does.

The NC10 comes with a bunch of Samsung utilities, but to be honest I haven’t really messed with them. I removed the only trial software that I noticed, McAfee, and that’s about it. I loaded some software over my home network and have been good to go. The only complaint about software is the lack of updates loaded out of the box. It comes with IE 6 so you have to load IE 7 and the multitude of updates that come along with it. I also loaded Chrome and soon will load Firefox and everything works as expected thus far. The speed is sufficient, I would say it is faster than my old Pentium M 2.0 GHz, 1GB RAM, laptop. I watched the latest episode of Heroes on [...] without stutter so I am pleased about that.

Lastly, thank you Samsung for not making the exterior surface shiny and for putting the mouse button where it is supposed to be. The AAO looked terrible with the shiny surfaces while the NC10 doesn’t get all gummed up with fingerprints like the AAO does. It may seem like a minor issue but it really is an annoyance with how dirty the AAO and other shiny netbooks appear to be. Although I primarily tap to click, the existence of a proper mouse button below the track pad is a huge bonus. Actually, this is the main reason I didn’t even consider the new HP Mini 1000 as I didn’t really care for that design on the AAO either.

Overall, this is the one to get!
